PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Syllabus

 

 The main emphasis of the middle school physical education program will be on motor skill development, interactive behavior and health-enhancing physical activity using the guidelines set up in the Alabama Course of Study. Our program promotes successful participation in a variety of activities, introducing competitive opportunities when appropriate. Through participation in physical education students will learn the skills and develop the knowledge and attitudes that lead to the enjoyment of physical activity for a lifetime.

 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

  1. The student will learn basic skills, rules, and strategies for each unit that will be covered.
  2. The student will understand the concept of how activities relate to muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance.
  3. The student will work with others in an activity to achieve a common goal.

 

UNIFORMS

All students shall be required to wear PE uniforms that may be purchased through the school, or appropriate gym clothes for physical education according to Jefferson County Code of Conduct-  BLACK shorts, WHITE, Grey, or Yellow  t-shirts, cotton socks, and tennis shoes. Shorts and t-shirts must fit loosely in order for the student to have freedom of movement. Students may wear warm-up pants, warm-up suits, sweat pants, sweat shirts, or lightweight jackets during cold weather. Cut off shirts or shorts, tank tops, blue jean shorts or any shoes other than tennis shoes will not be allowed.  STUDENTS MUST WEAR TENNIS SHOES.

 

PARTICIPATION

  1. All students will dress out for physical education activity, unless the activity for the day does not require dressing out.
  2. All students will line up in proper roll call line each day.
  3. All students are to stay with their class.
  4. Doctor’s excuses shall be accepted excusing the student from physical education, but the student shall make up this work with assigned bookwork from the teacher, in order to receive points for the excused days.
  5. A parent note from home excusing the student from physical education participation due to sickness or injury will be accepted, but the student will do assigned bookwork to get credit for each day.
  6. Students who arrive late to the gym will be counted tardy.
  7. Students must dress out in order to participate.
  8. A student will receive a “0” for each day not dressed out, and for each unexcused absence.

 

LOCKERS

  1. All students will have a gym locker available for use during physical education class.
  2. Students will be charged a $5.00 fee for use of the locker (Make Checks payable to McAdory Middle School) which includes the lock.
  3. Locker room will be locked during class time to help insure safe keeping of all clothing and possessions.

 

GYMNASIUM RULES

  1. No food or drinks shall be allowed in the gym.
  2. No chewing gum or eating candy. (You will be written up)
  3. Wear only tennis shoes on gym floor.
  4. Do not leave gymnasium until the bell rings for class dismissal.
  5. NO TALKING WHEN PE Teachers are TALKING!!

 

EVALUATION

  1. Grading Scale will be as follows for NOT DRESSING OUT/PARTICIPATION

 

4 Zero’s and below = A

5-9 Zero’s = B

10 -13 Zero’s= C

14-18 Zero’s = D

19 & Below Zero’s = F

 

 

  1. All students will participate in the Physical Fitness Testing per State Law
