 Welcome to the Counselor's Corner

Regina Turner , Leigh Ann Henneke and Cortney McKinney are the counselors at McAdory Middle School.  Mrs. Henneke and Turner are both Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) who see clients outside of the school setting in addition to their responsibilities at school. The role of school guidance counselors is to assist students in the three domains of: Personal/social skills, Academic Success, and Career Exploration. In addition to those domains they have other obligations and duties as assigned by Jefferson County Board of Education and their supervisors from scheduling to testing. This Counselor's Corner is provided to assist parents.  There is information that can help with everything from parenting information, registration, to learning more about substance abuse issues.  Their phone and email is always open.  Feel free to contact them at any time.

The counselors provide services to the students in several ways: large group guidance, small group counseling, individual counseling, consultation, and providing indirect services. The domain areas of Personal/social Skills, Academic Success, and Career Exploration are targeted in all of the above mentioned ways.  Testing data, a yearly student needs assessment of the guidance program and student concerns as well other data are used to determine the direction of the guidance program for each academic year.

Regina Turner, LPC, NCC is the mother of three daughters who have ADD, some with hyperactivity and some without.  One daughter also had severe learning disabilities and was told that she would never read at an 8th grade reading level.  Good-news!  She is a Senior in college with better than a 3.0 GPA! This took a lot of hard work and determination!  She has been in education and/or working with troubled youth for 24 years.  Her passion is to help students become all they can and to help prevent as well as to intervene in risky behaviors!  Her experiences in dealing with the adolescents through out her professional career, in addition to her challenges in raising her own children, give her a wealth of knowledge and understanding and information. She hosts a Parent Support Group in the library at McAdory Middle School.  Feel free to contact her at 379-4742 or rturner@jefcoed.com

Leigh Ann Henneke, LPC is the mother of two children and has been a counselor for more than ten years.  She has experience as a school counselor with ages from elementary to high school aged students.  She has also worked with families, couples, and battered women.  Mrs. Henneke was a key player in making sure McAdory High School had the Pre-AP/ AP program and the ACCESS computer classes.  She is innovative and hard working and does her best to instill these traits into the students she works with.  Fell free to contact her at 379-4730 or at lhenneke@jefcoed.com

Cortney Mckinney, has come to us as a "half" of a counseling unit from McAdory Elementary where she splits her day with us.  She is the 6th grade counselor.  She is a new mom and is doing a good job of balancing all of her roles: wife, mom, elementary counselor, middles school counselor and so on.  Mrs. McKinney has been a cousnleor for more than 8 yearts.  She graduated with both her undergrad and masters for Auburn University! Her favoirtie part of counsleing is the one-on-one time she gets with kids so she can let thme know that she cares and has hopr for their future!  Cortneymckinney@jefcoed.com

Using this site: Under the documents button on this page there are many, many documents, lists, and so forth.  These can be used to help enlighten you as a parent. Today's culture makes parenting a challenge. Mrs. Henneke and Mrs. Turner have been around students through out their careers so, much of the information found on this page has come through our experiences and via training.  Much of it, parents do not know until it is too late.  Take time to look it over, it could make the difference for your child's future!

P.S. CHECK PERIODICALLY!!! We plan to update with new information and power points as we get time and information!
